Cali Mayor’s Office Coordinates Food Donation Channel with the UN for Earthquake Victims
- Thanks to a partnership between the District Government of Santiago de Cali and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), residents of Cali living abroad can make donations via the ShareTheMeal platform to provide food aid to those affected by the earthquake.

As part of the «Cali Somos Todos por el Mundo» (Cali Somos Todos Around the World) campaign led by Alejandro Eder’s administration to rally the solidarity of the Cali diaspora the District Mayor’s Office of Santiago de Cali has established a partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This initiative enables residents of Cali and citizens across the globe to contribute to food relief efforts for families affected by the earthquake that struck on August 10.
Using the ShareTheMeal platform via a mobile phone or computer, individuals can make digital contributions to the «Juntos por Cali» (Together for Cali) campaign. The funds raised will provide food assistance to families impacted by the emergency through cash transfers or vouchers.
The goal of this initiative, coordinated by the Mayor’s Office of International Relations and Cooperation, is to raise funds to provide over 100.000 meals to those affected in Cali.
The World Food Programme will be responsible for managing donations and distributing the aid, according to Lina Ramírez, Director of the Office of International Relations and Cooperation for the Santiago de Cali District Government.
This partnership is part of the international cooperation efforts led by the district in collaboration with various entities to secure financial, talent, and knowledge-based contributions from abroad as part of the ‘Cali Somos Todos por el Mundo’ (Cali: All of Us for the World) campaign.
“‘Cali Somos Todos Around The world’ is an initiative that seeks to connect residents of Cali living abroad so that, through their talents, opportunities, and connections, we can help recover and rebuild Cali following the earthquake. It is a global network of the Cali diaspora,” explained Lina Ramírez, director of the Office of International Relations and Cooperation for the Cali Mayor’s Office.
The official reminded residents of Cali living abroad that they can contact the office through internacional@cali.gov.co to join other causes, such as supporting micro-entrepreneurs and business owners affected by the earthquake and rebuilding 250 educational institutions damaged by the emergency, among others.
Cali advances partnerships for reconstruction
In Long Island, at the invitation of the Colombian community based in New York, the «Cali Somos Todos por el Mundo» (Cali: All of Us for the World) campaign was presented as part of the «Longislandton» event, which raised funds for those affected by the earthquake in Colombia.
«It is very important for us to be with the Colombian diaspora, which is supporting Cali at a time when we need it most. We reiterate the call for them to join in the city’s reconstruction efforts, focusing on areas such as food assistance, business recovery, and construction,» said Mabel Lara, Strategic Projects Manager. from the Cali Mayor’s Office after concluding the presentation of the strategy at that event.
Juliana Holguin, a journalist from Cali based in the United States and one of the event’s organizers, highlighted the creation of ‘Cali Somos Todos por el Mundo’ (Cali: We Are All Together Around the World) as a way to foster solidarity among those living far from home. “People are constantly asking us what we can do, and initiatives like this allow us to work on tangible projects and play a leading role in our country’s reconstruction,” she stated.
